The Sekyere Afram Plains District Assembly has officially launched the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) Programme to improve access to quality healthcare for residents, particularly those in remove and underserved communities.
The ceremony, held at Drobonso on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, brought together representatives of the District Assembly, the Ghana Health Service, tratidional authorities, security agencies, heads of departments, teachers, students and community members.

Speaking at the event, the District Director of Health Services explained that the programme would provide eligible beneficiaries with free primary healthcare services at public health facilities across the district. He noted that the initiative complements the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by addressing healthcare costs that often prevent vulnerable residents from seeking timely medical attention.

In a keynote address delivered on behalf of the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament, the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery was reaffirmed. The representative noted that Sekyere Afram Plains is among the first districts selected to benefit from the nationwide rollout of the programme.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services commended the Government for extending the initiative to the district and assured stakeholders of continued support for its successful implementation. Representatives of the NHIS and the Ghana Ambulance Service also educated participants on the complementary services available to residents.

The programme was officially unveiled by the Chairman and invited dignitaries, marking the beginning of its implementation in the district. The initiative is expected to improve access to healthcare, reduce financial barriers to treatment and contribute to better health outcomes for residents across the Sekyere Afram Plains District.
