The Sekyere Afram Plains District joined the rest of the country in commemorating Green Ghana Day on 5th June 2026 with a tree planting exercise at the Issahkrom CHPS Compound. The event was organised to promote environmental sustainability, increase tree cover and create awareness of the importance of tree planting and conservation.

The celebration brought together representatives of Miro Forestry and Timber Company Limited, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains, the Ghana Education Service (GES), officials of the District Assembly, teachers, students, community leaders and members of the public, all demonstrating their commitment to protecting the environment.

As part of the exercise, 5,000 seedlings were distributed to schools and community members to support afforestation efforts across the district. Participants were encouraged to plant and nurture the seedlings to ensure their survival and contribute to improving the district’s tree cover.

A practical demonstration on proper tree planting and maintenance was conducted by the District Director of Agriculture. Participants were taken through appropriate site selection, preparation of planting holes, watering and post-planting care to improve the survival rate of the seedlings and maximise the impact of the exercise.
